Potentially my favorite continent to travel to, a trip to Europe can encompass thrilling hikes, gorgeous beaches, or history spanning back centuries. With so many travel options, Europe holds something for everyone, from the adventure-seeking to those looking for a relaxing break.

When To Go

Spring/Summer are my personal favorites! During these seasons you will generally find the most things available to do and tourist attractions open. July and August are high tourist season across many of the well-travelled European cities, and that is for good reason – temperatures are warm throughout mainland Europe and there is no lack of beaches, hikes, and activities throughout. If you want to avoid the crowds, the spring and fall may be better options to visit Europe’s most popular destinations as temperatures are still warm without being overcrowded. If Christmas markets, skiing or snowboarding is more your speed, there are plenty of cities with fabulous winter activities as well. In short, no matter the season, you will be sure to find things to do throughout Europe.

Language

Many Europeans speak English, but it’s helpful to learn some basic phrases in the local language.

The euro is used throughout most countries, but some countries still have their own currency. Notable exceptions include the UK (Pound). Switzerland (Swiss Franc), Norway (Norwegian krone), Denmark (Danish krone), Sweden (Swedish krona) and the Czech Republic (Czech koruna.)

Food

Some of the best in the world! European cuisine is diverse and varies by country, with memorable cuisine including Italian, French, Spanish, and German. Depending on where you go, the options will vary immensely.

Weather

Can vary greatly depending on the time of year and location, but summers are generally warm and winters can be cold.

Transportation

Options include trains, buses, and flights. Inter-city trains are often the quickest and most convenient option to get from city to city.
